Our mission:
HISTORY

In the fall of 1887, a "Remington Horse Powered Engine" was bought through subscription by the
people of the village who wished to donate. This, along with one hundred feet of used hose, was
tendered to the village. The first companies formed in the late fall of 1887 were:
 Holley Engine Co.
 Citizens Hose Co.
 Downs Hose Co.
 Holley Hook & Ladder

The first fire house was originally located at the bottom of Geddes Street Extension (where the
village incinerator was). Because the canal was directly behind, a pump was installed permanently
inside the building.  From this pump, they ran a pipe to the bottom of the canal, thus providing an
adequate source of water for fires in the business district.

You may wonder where the present companies came from. Well, like any organization, leadership
and the manpower to do the required work is needed.  After a few years the original companies
were finding it hard to keep up their duties and keeping the interest of the men. Therefore men would
approach the Village Board with the request that a new company be formed to take the place of the
one that faltered.

The Glenwood Hose Company was the first to evolve out the original companies in 1894. Before that
they were known as the Glenwood Men's Social Club. The next company to organize was the Holley
Hose Company #2. They drew up their charter in the April 0f 1901 and were accepted by the Board
the following month.

In 1902, the Holley Active Hook & Ladder Company #1 was organized after the other two hose
companies complained to the Village Board that the original company was not performing up to the
standards of the fire department.

It was these three Companies that made up the Holley Fire Department until they were consolidated
in October 2007, into one Company, the Holley Fire Department, as we know it today.
The Holley Fire Department has been organized for the purpose of providing fire protection and
emergency medical services (EMS), as defined and regulated by applicable federal, state and
local standards.  The Department will continually strive to improve the standard of fire service
and EMS to the citizens of our district by the incorporation of technological advancements in
equipment and by advancing the educational level and training of our members.
